The Floating Forest – Fuji Rock Festival
SDNA: installation design
The Floating Forest is a site specific installation created for the “Boardwalk” at Fuji Rock Festival 2016.
It consists of a trail of ten quirky insects’ and sea anemones’ projections within the tropical forest.
Fuji Rock Festival is an annual rock festival held in Naeba Ski Resort, in Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
The three-day event, organized by Smash Japan and Smash UK, features more than 200 Japanese and international musicians, making it the largest outdoor music event in Japan. Approximately 35,000 – 40,000 people visit it every day over the three days.
The Festival’s settings are rather unique due to the isolated nature of the site, surrounded by forests and mountains.
The “Boardwalk” is a wood decked pathway located in the middle of a tropical forest along the river towards the far end of the festival’s ground. The almost tropical climate, with a dense vegetation and rather large insects was the main inspiration for our artwork.
